The Green Budget Coalition is a team effort including over fifty staff from GBC member organizations as well as two core staff.
Andrew Van Iterson, Manager
Andrew has managed the Green Budget Coalition since 2005 and feels lucky to work with a team of smart, dedicated, collaborative people. His role particularly involves supporting GBC members to collaboratively develop, refine and agree on the GBC’s recommendations document, organizing and leading meetings with senior government representatives, and securing funding for the GBC.
Andrew has been active on environmental issues for thirty years, and has a Master’s in environmental studies from York University, with a diploma in business and environment through the Schulich Business School. He worked for a year with the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainable Development, developing guidance for auditing sustainable development.
Andrew strives to live lightly on the planet, much enjoys cycling and cross-country skiing and leads making an outdoor rink in his local park.
Astrid Hieblinger-Rempel, Assistant
Originally from Ottawa, Astrid’s combined love of words and nature led her to completing her Bachelor’s in English Literature and Environmental Studies at Queen’s University. After returning to Ottawa, she earned her Master’s in English Literature from Carleton University. Since graduation she has worked in the environmental non-profit sector in a variety of capacities, including communications, campaign planning, and community engagement.
In her time off, Astrid is an avid reader and walker, and can often be found reading a good book in the park.
